The movie adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig has been a huge success. The Swedish crime novel tells the story of a journalist Mikael Blomkvist who is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for forty years by Lisbeth Salander, a young computer hacker.
Many fans fell in love with Mara’s character, Lisbeth Salander, for her stylish, edgy look. The movie took place in wintery, cold Sweden so lots of muted blues, whites and browns feature throughout the movie contrasting beautifully with Salander’s black gothic style. Clothes retailer H&M have even created a fashion line in the style of Lisbeth Salander based on her grunge style.
Distressed and androgynous fashion has recently appeared all over the catwalk. The quality of having a blend of both strong masculine and strong feminine characteristics has proved ever popular. Biker jackets, gothic lace and bandage leggings are key pieces that relate to both the film and the androgynous theme. Distressed tees, grey denim and oversized boyfriend cardigans are also common with this trend.
